Tree felling
How to obtain a certificate of authorization to remove a tree?
Conditions to obtain a tree removal authorization certificate within the town limits of the municipality are as follows:
A certificate of authorization for tree removal is mandatory for any tree greater than 10 cm (4 in.) in diameter, measured 1.3 m (4.27 ft.) from the ground.
At the time of obtaining a certificate, a fee of $10 per tree to be removed will be assessed.
Any application for a tree-felling certificate must be made in writing, signed by the property owner, at the Public Works Building (300 Surrey St.)
During the visit, previously arranged with the property owner, prior to providing authorization, the municipal employee must confirm that the tree to be removed respects the criteria included in the regulations.
In case of tree felling without issuance of a valid certificate of authorization beforehand, no matter the species, a fine, with a minimum amount of six hundred dollars ($600) and a maximum of one thousand two hundred dollars ($1200), may be imposed.
