- Ditch and Culvert clean-up
Ditch and Culvert clean-up
Do you have a culvert or a ditch in front of your property?
Fall is a good time to verify if there is any accumulated dirt and leaves residues at the entrance or exit of the culvert pipe. In addition, make sure to mow the grass shorter in front of the entrance in order to ensure proper water flow in the ditch which comes from surface runoff of the land.
Accumulation of residues can lead to some blockage of the pipe and thereby prevent the free flow of water that will eventually overflow the ditch.
As ditches form a key part of the Town’s drainage systems, they cannot be obstructed under any circumstances. The by-law states that:
Throwing, dropping, placing or leaving dead leaves or grass cuttings as well as tree branches, snow, ice, construction materials, rocks, brick, paper or all other waste material or material of this nature in Lac St-Louis or any stream, ditch, vacant lot or public property of the Town is strictly prohibited. (Nuisance by-law 969)
Individuals in breach of these by-laws will be fined.
