Tree and Shrub Donation Program

For several years, the emerald ash borer has caused significant damage in Baie-D’Urfé, leading to the gradual disappearance of ash trees and negative impacts on the environment, economy, and quality of life. The loss of these trees has reduced the tree canopy, increased annual removal and replacement costs, harmed biodiversity, and altered the town’s landscape.

To mitigate these effects, the Town implemented an Emerald Ash Borer Strategy and a Tree Donation Program, encouraging residents to replant and diversify tree species on their properties. From 2015 to 2021, this initiative facilitated the distribution of thousands of trees of various species, helping to restore the local tree canopy. Each tree was selected based on the principle of “the right tree in the right place” to ensure optimal growth and long-term resilience. This program was completed in the spring of 2021.

Since then, the Town continues its efforts to enhance the urban canopy with the "Ensemble, on verdit" municipal tree and shrub donation program, offered in partnership with GRAME, which handles the planting of your tree or shrub and provides all necessary materials free of charge, including soil, mulch, mycorrhiza, and a tree guard. This turnkey project is exclusively available to residential property owners.

Important: only the Ensemble, on verdit program offered by GRAME is subsidized by the Town. No fees apply for residents under this program. However, a $20 fee per tree applies if you wish to have a stake installed. A maximum of three trees per property is permitted, and residents may also order one bundle of four shrubs per property.
