Number of cats and dogs

The maximum number of dogs and cats allowed per unit of occupancy is three (3) dogs and three (3) cats.

It is forbidden for any person to walk more than three (3) dogs at the same time.

Dog left alone

It is forbidden to leave a dog alone and unattended for a period exceeding 10 consecutive hours.

After this period, the guardian must mandate a responsible person to provide the animal with water, food and all the necessary care.

Stray Animal

Outside the boundaries of the occupation unit, the animal is considered a stray animal. An animal escaping from its occupation unit is presumed to have been released by the guardian. The first paragraph does not apply to a cat unless it appears lost, injured or in distress.

Anyone who finds a stray animal must, without delay, report it to the Town.

License

No guardian may possess or keep a dog within the limits of the Town without having obtained a license at the reception of the Town Hall in accordance with this section.

The application for a license must be made within 15 days after the possession of a dog or within 15 days of moving into the Town, even if the animal is provided with a license issued by another municipality.

The license issued under this section covers the life of the animal.

Costs of Licenses

  • Unsterilized dog: $50
  • Unsterilized and micro-chipped dog: $40
  • Sterilized dog: $40
  • Sterilized and micro-chipped dog: $30
  • Guide dog in training: free
  • Guide dog: free

Duplicate of medallion or license lost or destroyed: $5.

Canine Recreational Area

Number of dogs allowed

It is forbidden for a guardian to bring more than 2 dogs in the enclosure of a canine recreational area.

The presence of children under 12 without supervision is prohibited in the enclosure of a Canine recreational area. This being at the risk of the accompanying adult.

The dog must be kept on-leash until it is inside the canine recreational area and its guardian has made sure that the enclosure door is closed. Once inside the Canine recreational area, the guardian may remove the leash from the dog.

Medallion

It must wear at all times the medallion issued by the Town in accordance with the by-law, if the guardian of the dog is a resident of the Town of Baie-D'Urfé. It must also be equipped with a valid anti-rabies vaccination medallion.

Food

It is forbidden to bring food into the enclosure of the canine recreational area, either for human or animal consumption, including cookies and other treats, except for training purposes.
