Impermeable ground covering

You must obtain a certificate of authorization to install, alter or repair ground cover consisting of impermeable material such as unistone, pavement, patio decks, driveways, pool coping, etc. No certificate is necessary for work on a surface of less than 2 square metres (21.5 sq. ft.)

The authorized surface area of impermeable ground surfaces is established according to a ratio with the size of the property. Note that surfaces covered by a roof are included in this ratio.

In front yards and secondary front yards:

In RA zones (except for zone RA-17), the total area of spaces covered in impermeable materials in the front setback and the secondary front setback cannot exceed 40% of the larger of the areas of the two setbacks.

In RA zones (except for zone RA-17), no more than 40% of the front setback area and no more than 40% of the secondary front setback can be covered by impermeable materials.

Side yard:

In RA zones (except for zone RA-17), the total area covered by impermeable materials in the side setbacks cannot exceed 50%.

Total area:

In RA zones (except for zone RA-17), the total surface area of buildings and any impermeable ground covering cannot exceed 30% of the parcel area.
