Halocarbons

Halocarbons, also called refrigerants or gases, are chemical substances composed, among other things, of carbon and halogen (bromine, chlorine, with or without fluorine). They include substances that deplete the ozone layer (ODS) such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), as well as organic compounds.

These substances are commonly found in appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners. To ensure their proper and environmentally responsible disposal, the Town of Baie-D’Urfé offers a free home collection service for residents.

New Procedure for Refrigerant Appliance Collection

Residents must now submit their request directly to GoRecycle by filling out the online form available here (after you enter your postal code):

This service allows you to easily and free of charge dispose of your old refrigerant appliances, such as:

  • Refrigerator
  • Freezer
  • Wine cooler
  • Electric cooler
  • Portable air conditioner
  • Dehumidifier
  • Cooler

Please note: It is no longer necessary to contact the Town to request this service.

Important conditions:

→ The appliance must be emptied and placed near your residence (not on the sidewalk)
→ No purchase obligation is required
→ GoRecycle will handle the safe collection and processing of the appliance

By participating in this program, you are actively helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions — each recovered appliance prevents an average of one tonne of GHG emissions.
