Prohibited Use of Pesticides

Published on June 17, 2021

The Town of Baie-D'Urfé would like to remind its citizens that the use of pesticides is strictly prohibited on its territory. All types of pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, etc.), whether they are specialized products or sold in stores, are prohibited because they cause deterioration and contamination of the environment. This includes products such as Round Up, Weed B Gon, Wipe Out, End-All, Fiesta, etc. and even ecological products.

In order to raise awareness about pesticide use, Citizens on Patrol will be noting markers/signs of pesticide-treated lawns on residential properties and advising the Town's administration.

Pesticides are highly mobile in the environment and are spread from your garden into surface waters contaminating wildlife, plants and even drinking water. They can cause serious dangers to animal and human health as they are endocrine disruptors, fertility impairers, and cancer precursors.

Here are some alternative solutions:

  • Dandelions: Hand-pulling.
  • Grubs: Maintain a healthy lawn with a rich soil that promotes rooting that will better resist grubs. The use of clover seeds is also recommended to prevent damage caused by grubs. In addition, biological control is possible through the implantation of parasitic nematodes (roundworms).
