Nearly $4.5 M in grants for work at Baie-D’Urfé Town Hall

The Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l'Habitation (MAMH) has announced a grant of $4,485,000 for the expansion and restoration of Baie-D'Urfé Town Hall.
The work includes reconfiguring the space, restoration of historical works, installation of an elevator, reinforcement of the foundations and replacement and restoration of windows, as well as insulation of the building. When completed, a new section will be built and will include administrative offices. The ancestral section will give way to the Council Chamber and a workspace.
This work will enable the preservation of this emblematic building of the Town of Baie-D’Urfé, as well as ensure access for people with reduced mobility.
"Having served its function since the early 1900s, the emblematic Baie-D'Urfé Town Hall will be coming back to life and I am delighted. The restoration and expansion of this culturally rich building will be carried out with respect for the historic and symbolic building, particularly the main entrance added in 1914 by the famous architect and Baie-D'Urfé resident Edward Maxwell. Citizens will be welcomed back into municipal life as the restoration of the main hall will return it to its original function of holding public meetings. The project emphasizes the importance of universal accessibility and includes accessible ramps, automated door openings, mobility accessible washrooms and a lift.”
Heidi Ektvedt, Mayor of Baie-D'Urfé
