A message from the SPVM – Wave of break-in and entry

Published on December 4, 2025

Dear residents,

For the past few weeks, we have noticed an increase in break-ins in residential areas of the West Island. Officers from Neighbourhood Police Station 1 are paying special attention to the streets in the area, both in uniform and in plain clothes, while analysts and investigators work to identify potential suspects to resolve this issue.

Here are some security tips to help prevent your home from being targeted by burglars:

  • Make your home look occupied; leave lights on and clear snow from driveways and entrances
  • Store your equipment indoors; do not leave ladders outside as this makes it easier for thieves
  • Install timer systems on your lights, both inside and outside
  • Add a crossbar to the inside of your patio door
  • Always lock your doors, even if you are working from home
  • Install good quality outdoor security cameras

If you notice suspicious individuals or unusual activity in your neighborhood, day or night, do not hesitate to call 911. If you have information that could help solve these crimes, you can make a confidential report to Info-Crime at 514-393-1133

Thank you for your vigilance and cooperation. Please remain alert and help us keep our community safe.
