Unveiling of the Archaeological Artefacts Display at Baie-D’Urfé Town Hall

On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the Town of Baie-D’Urfé unveiled a display of archaeological artefacts discovered during the 2023 renovations and expansion of Town Hall. These discoveries, spanning from the prehistoric presence of Indigenous communities to the period of contact with Euro-Canadian settlers and the modern era, retrace thousands of years of local history.

Mayor Heidi Ektvedt emphasized the importance of this legacy for the community: “These discoveries remind us that Baie-D’Urfé has always been a place of gathering, exchange, and shared memory. By unveiling this display today, we honour those who came before us and ensure that their stories live on for future generations. As you take a closer look, let this heritage remind us of our deep roots and our shared responsibility to keep history alive. Baie-D’Urfé: Together towards a future rich in history.”

Archaeologist Amélie Guindon from Patrimonia highlighted the significance of the project: “These discoveries have deepened our understanding of the sequence of local occupation and highlight the importance of integrating archaeological heritage documentation from the outset of any development project. The excavations have opened small windows into the past, and the exhibition now offers citizens of Baie-D’Urfé an opportunity to connect with the archaeological resources of their territory.”

Finally, Director General Nicolas Bouchard shared his sense of wonder at the discoveries. Initially skeptical that anything would be found, he was profoundly moved when he held a 4,000-year-old arrowhead in his hands. “That day, I realized the importance of protecting this extraordinary heritage for future generations. I hope that all residents, young and old, will take the time to come and see these discoveries and this display during their next visit to Town Hall.”

This unveiling represents an important step in valuing local heritage and reflects the Town’s commitment to balancing development with respect for history.
