Residential Pool Safety Regulations - Compliance required by September 30, 2025
Published on June 16, 2025
The Government of Québec has amended the Residential Swimming Pool Safety Regulation, removing the exemption previously granted to pools installed before 2010. As a result, all residential pools, regardless of their installation date, must comply with the updated safety standards by September 30, 2025.
These changes aim to improve safety around pools and reduce the risk of drowning, especially for young children.
Here are some key requirements:
- A minimum fence height of 1.2 metres, with no climbable features
- Gate must remain closed at all times and be equipped with a safety latch
- Vertical bars must be less than 10 cm apart to prevent climbing
- Gate must have an automatic closing mechanism
- Any pool-related equipment must be installed at least 1 metre away from the pool wall or, if applicable, from the enclosure
The Town of Baie-D’Urfé encourages all pool owners to verify their installations now and plan any necessary updates.
