Reminder: West sector

Published on May 1, 2024

Prepare for the septic tank emptying starting June 17.

  • You will be sent a notice by mail 2 weeks before the visit.

  • Last year, we found that a number of septic tank manholes (access covers) on the Town’s territory were buried or covered with other materials, resulting in significant delays in the execution of the work and additional administrative costs.

Please note that covers must be level with the surface of the ground and must never be buried or covered with lawn, paving stones or other materials. Otherwise, our municipal inspectors are authorized to issue a statement of offence, with a fine ranging from $1,000 to $3,000, in accordance with the current by-law (Q2, r.22).Please note that an inspection concerning this issue will take place between May and November of this year, and you will receive a visit from the inspectors (including the EAST sector for inspection purposes only).

  • Please be aware that in the event that your septic tank cannot be emptied due to inaccessible covers, additional charges may apply for a second visit and will be billed directly to you.

For any questions, please contact the Environmental Department at 514 457-5339 or by email at info.fosses.septiques@baie-durfe.qc.ca.

Cleaning prefilters in your septic tank

Although the Town offers septic tank emptying services to all residents on its territory whose homes are not connected to a municipal sewer system, it would like to remind homeowners that it is their responsibility to clean the tank’s prefilter every year.

The prefilter retains particles that should not end up in the leaching bed, thereby prolonging its life. If the prefilter is not cleaned frequently, it could block the flow of water out of the tank, which would then back up into the house and prevent any waste water from leaving the home.
