Non-renewal of the building management agreement with the Community Buildings Club of Baie-D’Urfé (CBC)

Published on July 15, 2022

By mutual agreement, the CBC and the Town of Baie-D'Urfé have come to the conclusion that the current model has reached its maturity and does not ensure the long-term sustainability of operations.

Five years after the creation of the Club that managed the Fritz Community Centre and the Red Barn, we realize that many responsibilities and liabilities are falling entirely on the shoulders of volunteers which makes it very difficult to ensure a succession.

"Over the past five years, the CBC has worked tirelessly to fulfill its mission in providing the community with quality service, access to town facilities, including the co-ordination of activities offered by local volunteer groups within these buildings. I would like to thank all the members of the Board and especially Tony Brown, Zahir Shariff, Kitty Wilkes, Tobby Skeie and Kim Millette for their outstanding commitment."  Heidi Ektvedt, Mayor of Baie-D'Urfé.

The CBC was established in 2016 to improve the user experience at the Red Barn and Fritz Community Centres and to facilitate public usage of these buildings by managing the moveable property, such as furnishings, kitchen implements, artwork and audio/visual equipment. The CBC has also managed event rentals and custodian services for these buildings.

The CBC has provided a unique experience for citizen volunteers to be directly involved in the management of the Red Barn and Fritz Community Centres with a view to encouraging higher utilization by the public and preserving the heritage value of these iconic buildings. I would like to thank my team of dedicated volunteers over the past five years and also Coleen Shaw and Michael MacDonald for their time, commitment and effort supporting this public service.”  Tony Brown, Chairman, CBC.

The town and the CBC executive will be working together on a smooth and timely transition of these operations.

The town has no intention of changing the vocation and services offered to the population in each of its buildings and wishes to maintain the same quality standards.”  Heidi Ektvedt, Mayor of Baie-D'Urfé.
