Ice rinks update for the coming season
Published on October 28, 2020
Following discussions surrounding the Baie-D'Urfé skating rinks at the last October Council meeting, the Town Council and the department of Public Works came to a solution regarding the multi-sport surface at the Red Barn for the winter season and for the benefit of all skating fans!
Summary of the proposed solution:
The discussion revolved around the feasibility of maintaining two (2) full-sized rinks this winter. This presented a number of challenges that needed to be resolved in order to offer the residents of Baie-D’Urfé quality ice rinks during the Covid period.
The Department of Public Works recently proposed a compromise solution. The multi-sport surface of the Red Barn will be equipped this winter with 4 feet-boards so it can be used for hockey play. As this rink is on a permanent surface, it will be easier to maintain. Indoor facilities at the Red Barn will allow for washroom facilities and a space for changing footwear.
The path adjacent to the rink will also be available for free skating. Proper lighting will be installed to allow skating in the late afternoons and evenings.
We hope these initiatives will be popular and appeal to our skating fans!
