Focus on birds, pollinators, and butterflies in 2024

Published on February 5, 2024

This year, our commitment continues in the preservation of pollinators and butterfl ies, while expanding our focus to the protection of birds among our priorities.

Did you know that several bird species choose to spend the winter in Québec despite the cold conditions, avoiding migration to regions with warmer climates? Moreover, birds nesting in the Far North, the tundra, and the Arctic come to winter near us, attracted by abundant food and milder temperatures.

An interesting fact: to survive the winter temperatures, several bird species lower their body temperature during the night to conserve energy.

If you are interested in birdwatching, the nearest observation station is at the Morgan Arboretum. We have also planned bird observation sessions in Baie- D’Urfé throughout the spring, summer, and fall seasons. To stay informed about these events, be sure to subscribe to our newsletter and follow the Town’s Facebook page.
