Drinking water sampling and analysis campaign by the City of Montreal

Published on July 8, 2022

The City of Montreal is conducting a tap water sampling campaign from July 1 to September 30, 2022.

The purpose of this annual campaign is to measure the presence of lead in tap water, in accordance with the Règlement sur la qualité de l'eau potable. The results of this annual sampling are required by the Ministère de l'Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques (MELCC).

If you wish to participate in this campaign, you must contact the Public Works Department at 514 457-2877.*

Please note that four (4) private properties will be analyzed. Spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Sampling will take place on August 25 and 29, 2022. The visit, which lasts approximately 50 minutes including a 30-minute waiting period, consists of taking one (1) water sample from the main tap of the home visited. Homes or apartments with less than eight units built before 1970 are targeted, as they are the most likely to have a lead water inlet.

Please note that all spots have been filled for this year's drinking water sampling and analysis campaign.

As part of this testing, the sampler will apply hygiene and physical distancing measures and use the equipment recommended by Public Health. In addition, the sampler will leave the house during the 30-minute waiting period. Finally, all touched surfaces will be disinfected before leaving.
