Changes to Selective Collection Starting January 1st, 2025
Published on December 18, 2024
As part of our ongoing commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable environment, the Town of Baie-D’Urfé is adopting a modernized selective collection system, joining several other municipalities across Quebec in a collective effort toward a greener future. This new framework introduces minor changes for residents, requiring simple adjustments to habits to optimize collection and reduce our carbon footprint. With a few small actions, we’re contributing together to a more sustainable future for our community!
What’s Changing:
Starting January 1st, 2025, only three types of materials will be accepted in the blue bin: containers, packaging, and printed paper. For detailed information on items eligible for recuperation, please refer to this guide, provided by Bin Impact, a Quebec-based organization specializing in recycling education and support.
Additionally, no surplus will be accepted alongside the rolling bins on regular collection days. To help manage overflow, two specific days are designated for surplus collection: the next scheduled collection day following July 1st and December 25th. Outside of these dates, any surplus left outside the bin will not be collected.
Why This Change?
This updated selective collection system, meeting the requirements of Provincial Law 65, was implemented well ahead of the 2026 deadline through an agreement between our municipality and Éco Entreprises Québec. By aligning our efforts with other municipalities, Baie-D’Urfé is adopting an automated and efficient approach that reduces our environmental footprint, ensures the safety of collection workers, and makes sorting materials more effective.
How to Prepare:
- Sort Correctly: Be mindful to follow these new changes and only place containers, packaging, and printed paper in the blue bin.
- Prepare Your Items: Remove plastic films and lids, and rinse containers for optimal sorting.
- Plan Ahead: For excess items, plan for disposal on one of the two designated days for surplus collection.
- Request an Additional Blue Bin: If you anticipate needing more space for recyclable materials, contact Public Works at 514-457-2877 to request an extra blue bin.
Additional information and educational resources will be available on the Town’s Website to help guide you through this transition.
